DAY TRIPPERS
When the most recent Private View event for L'Artishe Gallery and Studio popped up on our facebook newsfeed it inspired ARTStorm to organise a trip out to Swanage. We couldnt make the PV but decided to visit Swnage and Durlston on Saturday 21st Feb, a beautiful bright and chilly day. A glorious day to check out all the famous Purbeck views and landmarks as we headed out over the ferry.
After stopping breifly at a couple of galleries on the high street we found L'Artishe and recieved a warm welcome from the owner and resident artist Sharon James. We enjoyed the diverse selelction of work on show there at the moment as part of this months 'Emerge' exhibition and spend an interesting half hour chatting with Sharon about her own experience of working and running a gallery in Swanage. I think we will be planning a show there as soon as we can fit it in.
After a very excellent lunch at Tawnys we headed on up to Durlston Castle to visit the Fine foundation Gallery there which is currently running an exhibition of altered and handmade books of prints and sketchwork. Again we were getting a feel for places to exhibit in the area. Durlston is a fantastic place to visit and if you love walking, is a must visit place and a good starting point for many Purbeck Coastal walks.
We ended the day feeling very inspired and with a resolve to do more gallery visits and exploring of venues and meeting more owners in person.
